Digital Accessibility

"People at the heart of everything we do."

My role as Web Content Producer with the Digital Communications Group at New York University ranges from content strategy to content review, and ensuring teams across the university are adhering to not only industry best practices, but also current accessibility standards at NYU.

After an intensive accessibility training with WebAIM in Logan, Utah in September 2017, I partnered with my colleague, Katie Santo, and facilitated weekly in person and virtual content accessibility training sessions to 550+ of our Content Management System (CMS) users during the summer of 2018. We helped our CMS users digest complex information regarding accessibility, answered challenging questions, and guided them during this university-wide initiative, while also helping to shift the conversation around the humanness of accessibility.

By the end of the summer, we realized we still had a number of users we were still trying to reach! So, in an effort to include those who couldn't attend either in person or virtually, we partnered with our colleagues in NYU IT and  created an online version of our training material in NYU Classes, accompanied with 28 quiz questions.

Moving forward, all new CMS users are required to complete CMS Content Accessibility Training.
